Sally Ride was the first American woman to fly into space. In 1983
together with her four crewmates she launched onboard the Space Shuttle
Challenger. As part of the STS-7 mission the crew deployed two
communications satellites. Sally operated the robotic arm used to deploy
and retrieve cargo.
